Brick

The most interesting new movie I’ve seen this year. The term “film-noir” is used about 17 times in the description of this film, so I won’t use it again.
Basically, an old-style murder mystery with arsty photography set in a high school. The main character (played by the adorable young man from 10 things I hate about you)Brendan’s ex is killed and he decides to get to the bottom of it. Twists and turns, fight scenes won and lost, foot chases and sweet cars abound. While the film is set in the world of high school, it’s best thought of as a private eye story. The vice principal is more of a street-wise police captain, and really all the characters are adults, despite being without diplomas. And the vixen is not the girl from OC, despite the doppelganger-like similarity.
All in all, a must see for all those who want to get in on the ground floor of what could easily be this year’s Donnie Darko. I hated that movie, but I liked this one
Overall - 4.5
